Yesterday I was going to write about the rest of my weekend and my adventures at Wal-Mart, but then I had a meeting with my supervisor that sapped the will to blog (or to do much of anything, really) right out of me. So I didn't. And now I'm not going to.

It looks like this is going to be a week of getting my shit together. My supervisor told me that they are definitely doing away with one of the admin positions, and the remaining position is going to change drastically, and the new requirements will exceed my qualifications. She still couldn't give me any definite answers as to whether or not they're going to keep and train me or lay me off and hire somebody new, but she encouraged me to explore other possibilities. I think they're hoping I'll leave and make the decision for them (and spare them from giving me severence pay to boot), but I'm not sure I'm inclined to make it that easy for them.

At any rate, the possibility of impending unemployment suddenly seems very real. I was thinking that I could just go back to temping (which was how I fell into this job in the first place, forever ago), which would give me some schedule flexibility and free up some time for writing; but going over my budget, it looks like I'm going to have to suck it up and find another full time job, at least until I get my credit cards paid off. If not for my credit card bills, my monthly expenses really wouldn't amount to much. I already live with my mom, and though I pay rent and expenses, I don't believe she'd toss me out if I had a dry spell and had to skip a month of rent. "Expenses" includes food, so it's not like I'd starve. So basically, I'm working for the creditors. Listen up, kiddos: Don't let yourselves become slaves to debt. I'm pushing 30 (I'll be 28 in April, people!), and still paying off credit cards I racked up the first time I went to college.

Anyway. I'm getting back a pretty good tax refund, so that will help cushion the blow, and yesterday I mailed off my FAFSA and scholarship applications, so hopefully I'll be getting some tuition assistance from the government and won't have to deal with how to pay for that. So if I can just pay off the stupid credit cards, everything will be copacetic. I hope.

This afternoon I'll be spending my free time updating my resume and checking out job postings. Maybe I'll be able to just transfer to another department to hold me over until this summer, when I was planning to quit anyway. If it comes down to it, though, don't think I'm above using this space to beg for work. Hopefully it won't come to that, but if it's between that and going back to work for Wal-Mart, well, I'm not too proud to beg.

Today's not all about gloom & doom and uncertainty, though. Tonight are new episodes of Buffy and Angel, which makes me all kinds of happy in spite of myself. I was going to post links to spoilers, but you know what? If you can't wait seven more hours to find out what happens, then that's just sad. Besides, if you're even half the spoiler whore that I am, you already know what's going to happen anyway. So instead, to get you through until tonight, here are some related non-spoiler links:
  • Spike the Evil Vampire - Spike gets his own spin-off! Okay, not really, but here is one fan's take on how that would play. It made me laugh, at any rate.

  • TV's MVPs - TV Guide's take on why Alyson Hannigan deserves to be an MVP.

    And on a semi-related note...

  • Alien 5 rumor debunked - Coming Soon declares reports of an upcoming Joss Whedon penned Alien installment to be false (thanks goes to Terrence for this link).

You know, sometimes I think I should just rename this the Buffy Blog and be done with it. Or rather, the Spike Blog. That could be cool. The Blog o' Spike. The Bloody Blog o' Spike. The Bloody Awful Blog of Snarky Blond Goodness. Jean's Big Ol' James Fest. Whichever. It could be a whole fan site (like there aren't enough fan sites out there devoted to Spike and/or James Marsters). I could have a section for fan-submitted bloody awful poetry devoted to Blondie Bear, and feature an online comic about a fictional band called Harmony's Minions.

Y'know, that sounds fun. I think I'm going to do that. Except, not really.
